Ray Seilie was recently sought out by ION Analytics’ Dealreporter for insight on the vertical integration concerns arising from Fox’s proposed acquisition of Roku, announced in June 2026.
The article, entitled “Roku/Fox likely to clear DOJ review amid politics, marginal competition issues,” analyzes the proposal to combine Fox’s vast content library with Roku’s reach as a streaming and ad platform that facilitates users’ access to streaming apps. It highlights that while vertical integration concerns exist, the deal may still clear review from the Department of Justice (DOJ) due to favorable politics and litigation, as these cases are tough for the agencies to win.
As Ray tells ION Analytics’ Dealreporter, “There is no reason the DOJ needs to speculate. If it clears the merger now, and Fox/Roku resorts to demonstrably anticompetitive behavior in the future, DOJ can intervene at that later point.”
