The firm is pleased to share that partner Amber Melius recently sat down for an interview with the Los Angeles Business Journal as part of its “Who’s Who in Law” series, which spotlights the leading legal professionals in the Los Angeles region. During the interview, Amber discussed topics ranging from her start in entertainment law and her first trial win, to the emerging legal challenges presented by AI and social media.
To begin the interview with Business Journal editor Zane Hill, Amber was first asked what inspired her legal career, and more specifically, why entertainment law. She shared how her introduction to the legal field was through the 90s TV show “L.A. Law,” which sparked a curiosity to learn more about the profession, ultimately leading to her obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in political science and attending law school. As for how she landed on entertainment law, Amber tells the Business Journal, “I sought out entertainment because it’s fulfilling to play a role in helping individuals and companies thrive in such a competitive, stimulating and constantly-evolving industry.”
Amber goes on to explain why she chose Los Angeles for her career, noting, “its entertainment-driven economy brings incredible diversity in the kinds of litigation you deal with,” as well as how her firm has enhanced her career, emphasizing that it provided “exposure to a diverse range of industries and complex cases, broadening my expertise and skillset.”
Additionally, Amber describes the trial victory she is most proud of: a 2018 victory regarding a client who was wronged by their longtime employer. She shares that various challenges and unexpected issues arose during the trial, but ultimately, the Jury accepted the expert’s damages in full, and the verdict was recognized as one of California’s top verdicts of the year.
