Ray Seilie is a seasoned trial and appellate litigator who represents clients in high-stakes civil and criminal matters across various industries, including entertainment, technology, real estate, and financial services. A graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School, Ray is known for his ability to thoughtfully strategize about how best to achieve his clients’ goals throughout all stages of a dispute, from the very first demand letter to a full-blown jury trial. He has a track record of delivering optimal results both in and out of the courtroom and is trusted by his clients to provide valuable legal guidance about sensitive investigations, commercial conflicts, and emerging regulatory issues.

Ray has successfully tried numerous cases to verdict, including one of the most significant fraud prosecutions brought by the U.S. Department of Justice, in a case that was recognized was recognized by the Daily Journal in its annual California Lawyer of the Year awards, by Benchmark Litigation as “Impact Case of the Year,” and by Global Investigations Review as “Most Important Case of the Year.”

Ray has also secured wins at the pretrial stage in federal and state courts, briefed and argued appeals in the Ninth Circuit and California appellate courts, and negotiated favorable resolutions in multimillion-dollar disputes involving major global corporations.

Before joining KHIKS, Ray practiced at Bird Marella and Munger, Tolles & Olson. He previously served as a Deputy City Attorney for Los Angeles and clerked for the Honorable Jay S. Bybee on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Representative Matters

  • As trial counsel, secured a full acquittal—a result achieved in fewer than one percent of indicted federal criminal cases—in one of the largest federal fraud trials brought by the U.S. Department of Justice.
  • Successfully defended international K-pop group BTS and its label HYBE Corporation in federal copyright litigation, winning a complete defense judgment after the first motion to dismiss.
  • As trial counsel, successfully defended one of the country’s largest real estate firms in a multi-week jury trial involving allegations of defective construction and material non-disclosures related to a mixed-use development.
  • As trial counsel, successfully defended a Fortune 200 company in an 18-plaintiff employment lawsuit, obtaining a complete defense judgment and a six-figure award of costs after a four-week jury trial.
  • Successfully defended a local magazine publisher against a defamation lawsuit, securing a voluntary dismissal of all claims by the plaintiff in exchange for an agreement not to seek compensation for attorneys’ fees and legal costs.
  • Represented Plains All American Pipeline in criminal litigation stemming from a major oil spill, achieving dismissal of 37 of 46 charges and successfully arguing that the client should be fined less than one percent of the amount prosecutors were seeking.
  • Successfully briefed and argued a motion to vacate an arbitration award on behalf of a foreign advertising platform being sued by Google for a nine-figure amount.
  • Represented at trial a real estate developer in a federal bribery prosecution arising from the L.A. City Council corruption investigation.
