Joshua Rosenberg handles an expansive range of complex litigation matters, including entertainment, intellectual property, employment, copyright and trademark infringement, breach of contract, defamation, and general business disputes. He has represented numerous entertainment industry clients in intricate legal matters, such as motion picture studios, production companies, talent agencies, management companies, live entertainment companies, recording artists, music publishers, actors, writers, producers, and studio executives. In addition to entertainment clients, Josh has represented manufacturers, real estate developers, high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, and non-profit organizations. 

Josh has extensive experience in all phases of litigation, including pretrial investigation, extensive motion practice, fact and expert discovery, witness preparation, arbitration, trial, and appeals. In his practice, Josh draws on his comprehensive litigation background to represent clients across a range of professions and industries. 

Additionally, he has been widely recognized for his litigation work, particularly in the entertainment industry. Josh was named to Lawdragon’s 2026 “Leading Global Entertainment, Sports & Media Lawyer” Guide, as well as Legal 500’s 2026 “Recommended Lawyer: Dispute Resolution – General Commercial Disputes – Mid Market” and 2025 “Media, Technology, and Telecoms: Media and Entertainment: Litigation” lists. Variety selected Josh for inclusion on its prestigious “Music Legal Elite” list in 2025 and “Legal Impact Report” list in 2022 and 2024. In 2024 and 2025, Billboard named him a “Top Music Lawyer.”

Representative Matters

  • Served as lead trial counsel for acclaimed recording artist/songwriter Jason Derulo and record company Sony Music Entertainment in a high profile, 2026 jury trial in federal court in Los Angeles. Plaintiff guitarist Matthew Spatola claimed that he was a joint copyright author of Derulo’s hit song Savage Love, which reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. After eleven days of witness testimony and closing arguments, the jury deliberated for only three hours before reaching a unanimous defense verdict in favor of Josh’s clients. Plaintiff later waived his right to appeal in exchange for Derulo and Sony Music waiving their right to pursue prevailing party attorneys’ fees, thereby concluding the case.
  • Representing an internationally known recording artist and actress in an assortment of matters, including content and brand protection, employment issues, contract disputes, and personal and cybersecurity matters.
  • Representing a film financier regarding its investment in a feature film in a contract and tort lawsuit.
  • Obtained a favorable settlement on the eve of an arbitration hearing for a writer, producer, and financier of a feature film involving claims of fraud and breach of contract. 
  • Represented a television and motion picture studio in a breach of contract lawsuit concerning a boxing match broadcast.
  • Served as first chair in an arbitration for a cannabis company and secured a $3 million award for a breach of contract claim. 
  • Secured several restraining orders for celebrity and high-profile clients involving stalking and harassment issues. 
  • Represented a world-renowned boxer and successfully defeated a motion for preliminary injunction seeking to halt an international televised professional boxing event. 
  • With Howard Weitzman, represented the Executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson in several actions in the state and federal courts of California and New York.
  • Represented a variety of music industry entities and individuals, including EP Entertainment, Reach Music Publishing, Del Records, Ubiquity Recordings, and several famous recording artists.
  • With Lawrence Iser, represented Mattel in intellectual property and contract disputes.
  • Obtained complete victory in arbitration for music management company regarding payment of commissions.
  • Represented several senior level movie studio executives in employment disputes and obtained favorable confidential settlements and severance agreements.
  • Represented a motion picture production company in a contract action arising from a film financing transaction. Obtained summary judgment in client’s favor.
  • Won summary judgment for defendant in a $40 million fraud, trade secret, and trademark action against a leading water product manufacturer.
  • Successfully defended, at trial, a live entertainment company in a multi-billion dollar tort litigation.
  • Represented a motion picture production company in a contract dispute with a foreign distributor.
  • Represented a world famous entertainer in a tort and contract dispute with several former employees.
