Nick Soltman recently provided insight to The Hollywood Reporter on the ‘Rust’ settlement reached with the widower of Halyna Hutchins, who was accidentally killed on the set of the film last year. The article, entitled, “Inside the Secret ‘Rust’ Settlement: Why Did Halyna Hutchins’ Widower Drop His Suit to Become an Executive Producer?” explains the complexity of the case and what considerations may have led to Matthew Hutchins’ decision to accept an executive producer credit.
One of the alleged factors considered in the settlement was the limited offerings the film could bring to the late cinematographer’s husband, as its only assets are the rights to the movie, the footage, and any forthcoming proceeds. Nick explained why this may have factored into Hutchins’ settlement, saying, “‘Rust’ doesn’t have a lot in the way of assets outside of the rights to the picture, and the only way that’s worth anything is for it to get done.”
