On Sunday, July 30, KHIKS Managing Partner Larry Iser gave a workshop on Fair Use to attendees of the University Film and Video Association (UFVA) 2017 Conference at Cal State Los Angeles. The UFVA is an organization of professors, scholars and film and video makers, and is one of the principal academic organizations in the United States for studying media. Larry’s well-attended workshop was simply titled “What Your Students Should Know About Fair Use,” and covered the historical underpinnings of the fair use doctrine in copyright as well as recent court cases involving parody and transformative use. Larry’s practice includes fair use and chain of title analyses for film projects, as well as litigating cases concerning fair use.
