Kate Mangels was recently featured in the Fox News Digital article “Alec Baldwin could face prison time in fatal ‘Rust’ shooting, but experts say evidence may be ‘problematic,’” which discusses new evidence against the actor following his acquittal earlier this year.
As a result of a newly conducted accidental discharge test, Baldwin is alleged to have pulled the trigger on set, a fact he has denied throughout the legal proceedings. However, these tests were conducted using a reconstructed version of the weapon as the original gun was damaged by the FBI–a fact that could work in Baldwin’s favor. Kate explains, “Defense attorneys would argue that a test on a reconstructed gun with new parts cannot be proof of what occurred with the original gun.” She continues to tell Fox, “Regardless of whether there is proof he pulled the trigger, Baldwin will still be able to maintain a defense that he had no reason to know the gun was loaded and that he did not act recklessly in pulling the trigger.”
