The Hollywood Reporter recently covered a judge’s order denying the motion to dismiss a trademark lawsuit between the founding members of Player, known for their hit “Baby Come Back.” Earlier this year, KHIKS filed the suit on behalf of Ronn Moss, who alleges that his former bandmate Peter Beckett unlawfully sought to seize the group’s name, despite the Player trademark being jointly registered by the group members. According to Judge Stephen V. Wilson, “… the use of the group’s name by a single member of the group may amount to trademark infringement if the trademark for the name is held by the musical association itself, and not held by any individual band member.”
